Modelling a nose using Surface tools in 3D Studio MAX

I've written this tutorial in response to a request for a tutorial on spline modelling a nose on Maxforums. It's been a while since I used surface tools as I've been useing mostly polymodelling lately. It touk me quite some time too creating this still slightly messy nose, and I'm sure if I would have used my familiar polymodelling technique demonstarted in my mouth modelling tutorial I would have cut my time at least in half. Still and this is the point I want to make, this might not be the quickest of techniques but it does teach you valuable things. It's my opinion that every modeller should at least have tried every one of the more popular techniques like NURBS, spline modelling, polymodelling and boxmodelling before sticking to one. This teaches you for one to see things from a different perspective, it forces you to rethink your strategy and it might even surprise you at times when you'll think of something you just couldn't see before.

SL500 Texturing and Lighting in 3D MAX

Warehouse scene: Composite maps vs Unwrapping - using Total Textures in 3D Studio MAX

The series focused on how Photoshop can be used to enhance 3D renders by way of compositing different passes as well as looking at the numerous image adjustments that are frequently used in the process.

Making Of Ford Mustang Fastback [65]

I decided to work on the Ford Fastback because I love the classic look of the car, and that is what I wanted to achieve – a feeling of class and style. I had a rough idea in my mind of the final image, the colours, and a studio render with maybe some different camera angles. But it was really the process of creating the car and trying out different things that led to the final result that I am talking about today. Creating a twin tip exhaust pipe in 3D Studio MAX 2010

I will be using 3DS Max 2010 but you should be able to follow in pretty much any other 3D software. We are going to start from the tip and work our way across the muffler. First off we will need the front viewport and we want to draw a circle spline and give it a suitable radius and number of sides. I gave mine 12 sides as I am going to use 2 iterations of turbosmooth later and I want it to be smooth. (You can use as many or as little as you want).
