Handbrake is a free multimedia utility which can convert standard DVD's into compressed formats: MP4 and MKV. One thing you have to mind is that Handbrake can only convert standard video DVD's that you would normally play in a DVD player. Handbrake won't convert a DVD-ROM with video files saved on it as individual files(AVI, MPG, WMV, MOV,etc). But if you would like to upload a commercial or home-made DVD movie to youtube.com video sharing website or put them to your web page or blog, Handbrake won't help you.
